prof. matthew shows middle schoolers treasures from department collection a recent field trip for berkeley middle school students allowed them to view a few items from the department's collection of exceptional instruments, the salz collection. normally under tight lock and key, these lucky students got a chance to see an amati viola from the 17th century as well as a music manuscript that was nearly 500 years old. professor matthew was there to convey the importance of the occasion, speaking to the extraordinary quality of the classical instrument and answering questions from the engaged students. cnmat staff dr. jeremy wagner wins chancellor's outstanding staff award the department of music is thrilled to announce that jeremy wagner, music department ph.d. and cnmat staff member was recognized for this prestigious award. the award, given to individuals and teams for projects undertaken within the last three years, is among our campus’ highest honors, recognizing  staff members whose thoughtfulness, initiative, and generosity have led to a significant positive impact within the berkeley community. congratulations to jeremy; this award is well deserved! berkeley summer sessions enrollment now available this summer the department of music will have a number of courses available through berkeley's summer sessions. classes like music in american cultures (music 26ac), history of jazz in america (music 128r), musics of the world (music 139) and others allow students to fulfill requirements within a shortened timeframe. to learn more about the music department's summer offerings, visit our course schedule page.
