日本女性医学学会（旧：日本更年期医学会）は更年期障害から老年期の医学的諸問題まで思春期も含め女性の一生を通じ研究する医療従事者の団体です。更年期とは閉経を挟む前後１０年間を指す。更年期には女性ホルモンの急激な減少で、のぼせや発汗、イライラなどさまざまな症状が現れる。このうち、日常生活に支障をきたすほどつらいものは更年期障害として治療の対象となります。名称変更には、学会が更年期だけでなく、思春期から老年期までの女性の一生を通しての健康問題を取り扱うという意味も込めております。
