行政長官在2007年的《施政報告》中表示，察覺到香港市民日益關注本港的文化遺產。近來，香港市民確實熱衷於本港的歷史文物，以及歷史文物在本港未來所佔的地位。事實上，香港如此成熟先進的社會，著實須更加重視我們的歷史遺產，並致力投放額外資源，加以保育。本港的不少建築物，都與我們一起成長，而這些建築物年老時候，亦像我們一樣須得到特別照顧。文物建築是我們必須珍惜的歷史遺產，未來數年，我們承諾投放額外時間致力推行文物保育，以及歷史建築的活化更新工作。
